We are proud to welcome Colonial Clydesdales as our official sponsor for the heavy horse rugs.

Their magnificent working team will be showcasing our new designs, testing fit on big horses, and help us develop styles that meet the unique needs of Clydesdales and other Heavy Horse breeds in Australia.

The Heavy Horses That Built Australia

By working alongside Colonial Clydesdales, one of the last professional Clydesdale teams in Australia, we are able to showcase our rugs in action on some of the largest horses in the country.

Their horses model and test our designs, proving first-hand that they fit, perform, and last.

This gives our customers confidence and peace of mind, knowing their horses are protected with rugs built for real horses, real conditions, and real results.

    Colonial Clydesdales

    • Our mission is to honour the proud traditions of the horses that built Australia. Through our working teams, we bring history to life with magnificent horse-drawn carriages, wagons, and authentic demonstrations.

From agricultural shows and community parades to weddings, festivals, and private events, we showcase the strength, beauty, and heritage of the Clydesdale—ensuring these timeless skills are passed on to future generations.

    Love My Horse

    • We share this same dedication by making sure today’s heavy horses, Clydesdales, Shires and big Warmbloods, are all celebrated and properly cared for. We understand the struggle of finding big rugs that actually fit, as most big horse rugs are designed to fit large thoroughbre horsess, not designed for the broad build of heavy horses.

That’s why we’ve created a specialised range of rugs and gear built for bigger horses—offering comfort, protection, and durability without compromise.

Let Me Please Introduce Emma Iddison

Emma’s love for Clydesdales began as a child, watching in awe at the Perth Royal Show, and that passion grew into a lifelong commitment to these gentle giants.

In 2007 she founded Colonial Clydesdales & Carriages, and today she travels across Australia with one of the last professional Clydesdale teams—preserving their heritage, sharing their beauty, and creating unforgettable experiences for people everywhere.

Together, we connect past and present: keeping these magnificent horses healthy, stylish, and visible for future generations to enjoy

Meet The Magestic Colonial Clydesdale Team

    Roy

Roy is a 10-year-old bay Clydesdale gelding who stands at 18 hands. Born in Western Australia, he traveled to Victoria with me in 2020 as a young horse.

Roy was started on harness training later in life, as he benefited from extra time to mature before beginning. He has now started working with our experienced team Clydesdales to gain confidence and experience and will soon join our pair of Clydesdales attending events.

His favorite thing (other than food) is having his tail and hindquarters scratched—he'll even leave his food for it!

    Jack and Ben

    Ben

Ben is a 9-year-old Bay Clydesdale Gelding, standing at 17.3 hands high. Born in Victoria, he joined our team with an eagerness to please, especially for a carrot.

I even think he recognises the word!

He's the youngest horse on the team, possessing a cheeky, teenage-like personality that often looks for mischief. Despite his playful nature.

Ben is always well-behaved and reliable when it's time to work.

    Jack

As you might have guessed, Jack is another one of our Bay Clydesdales! At 14 years old, he is the oldest member of our working team.

He stands at 18 hands and weighs in at 950kg. Jack has been with Colonial Clydesdales since he was six years old.

He was originally bred for the Carlton United Brewery Team and came to us after the brewery discontinued their Clydesdale program.

Jack is our most reliable and steadfast team member; we can always count on him. He holds a very special place in my heart.

Testimonial from Emma at Colonial Clydesdales

Every day, I feel incredibly lucky to work with our magnificent Clydesdale horses — with their huge personalities and even bigger physical presence! It’s a real privilege to share these majestic Clydies with people across Australia as we attend agricultural shows, festivals, parades, weddings, and private celebrations.

We began using Love My Horse Heavy Horse Rugs several years ago because they offered the perfect fit for our big boys — and we loved supporting an Australian-owned company.

As the Colonial Clydesdales travel to events throughout the year, we rely on the Clydy Rug range to meet all our needs, both at home in the paddock and while on the road. From lightweight cotton summer sheets that keep our horses clean and cool, to heavy-fill winter rugs that protect them from the cold, wet Victorian winters — every rug performs beautifully.

We’re proud to showcase the Clydie Rug range so other big horse and Clydesdale owners can see the quality and benefits for themselves. Kerry at Love My Horse is always developing and improving the range, taking customer feedback on board to ensure the rugs truly suit large, heavy horses like ours.

✨ What This Means for You

By working with Colonial Clydesdales, one of Australia’s last working Clydesdale teams, we put every rug to the ultimate test on horses that are larger, broader, and harder to fit than most.

Not only do these magnificent horses model our rugs, showing you exactly how they fit and perform, but they also inspire us to keep developing new styles that solve the challenges big-horse owners face. We listen closely to our customers, adapting designs based on real-world feedback so every new release is more comfortable, practical, and durable.

The result? You get peace of mind knowing your horse is protected by rugs proven on the heaviest of horses—crafted with your needs in mind, and backed by the visible performance of the Colonial Clydesdales.

Together, we aim to give owners confidence that Love My Horse rugs will stand up to daily work, travel, and play —keeping your heavy horses protected, comfortable, and looking their best.
