Where Satin Lining Sits in a Winter Horse Rug
Satin lining sits closest to your horse’s coat, making it one of the most important comfort layers in a rug. Positioned beneath the insulated fill and waterproof outer, satin lining helps reduce friction, prevent rubbing, and protect sensitive areas such as the mane, shoulders, and chest while your horse moves.

In our summer rug range, satin lining is strategically placed in high-rub areas only — including the shoulders, mane area, and tail flap — to provide targeted protection while keeping rugs lightweight and breathable in warmer conditions.
❓ Does satin lining make horses hot?
No. Satin lining does not create heat or trap warmth on its own. Satin is a smooth, lightweight lining designed to reduce friction against the coat, not to insulate. In winter rugs, warmth comes from the insulated fill layer, while the satin lining simply sits against the horse’s coat to improve comfort and prevent rubbing.
In summer rugs, satin lining is used only in targeted high-rub areas such as the shoulders, mane area, and tail flap, allowing the rest of the rug to remain lightweight and breathable for warm conditions.
